Statement

As an intermedia artist and poet, I facilitate play- and process-based collaborations and create
multimedia work that threads poetic narrative, performance and moving image. Inspired by my
experience in a trans body, I use my body as conduit across media, developing ideas through
shifting formal constraints. This method moves between limitations and moments of liberatory
release. In repetition and variation, I discover meaning emerging through exploratory intimacy. I
intend to create slippage within language and visual reference to discover meaning where our
expectations for how things behave may mislead us. My projects span video, performance and
poetry, forming bodies of work. I work at the edges of forms, breaking things open to redefine
what’s possible.
Inspired by Jill Johnston’s definition of intermedia, articulated as, “Re-integration. The everything
as everything. The organism as totally illegal. The legality of nothing but pleasure,” I get intimate
with everyday materials through commitment to DIY queer aesthetics. Resisting internalized
perfectionism that hungers for polished and sanitized art products, residues of my process litter
my works, highlighting the unfinished or deviant: a misread line, a poorly lit green screen, scuff
marks, and eraser crumbs.
